[Update:Joystiq clarifies that the press release "was issued by an outside PR agency in the UK on behalf of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe". But they have received confirmation directly from SCEE,including the detail that the date is for all of Europe. They also talked to SCEA,who repeated that "We have not yet announced an official North American release date."]
Citing a press release they say they’ve received,PS3Fanboy is now giving October 24th as the UK release date for LittleBigPlanet. I’m waiting for official word from Sony that I can link to,but assuming it is true: What could have caused this change? Did Sony just think that UK PS3 owners needed a pleasant surprise? Did the game somehow go gold a week early? Maybe they had all of the translators and voice actors work a long weekend to avoid the usual European delay?
My bet is that the October 29th Large Hadron Collider sent a copy of LBP back in time to the September 10th LHC. Or,rather,it will do. Then it was simply a matter of getting it to the duplicators. Thanks,Mr. Science!

I think I know the true story.
Well you see,in europe (or at least in Denmark) every game gets released a FRIDAY (the 24th october) and the 29th october was a wednesday,so they moved it back to the nearest friday
north american release date is on october 21!
I do hope the LBP is released on the 24th in Denmark too (although sooner would be better
)
Patience
Fingers, toes, legs (and anything else I can) crossed that this is true.
With the week booked off work getting it the day before my holiday starts will be lovely!!!!!!!
Not related,but I didn’t see a contact address…
When I logged into the PS Store tonight (here in Japan) I was greeted with a theme download / beta application for LBP. The theme is only downloadable from the 17th until the 23rd,and apparently the info as to whether or not you got accepted will be sent out by or before the 29th –as the beta apparently runs from the 29th of September until the 12th of October. (I may be misremembering the exact dates as I am not at my PS3 now,but they are close enough.)
Details I gleaned from the write up seemed to indicate that the file would weigh in at 950MB,and that you would be able to test both playing in the garden and creating things as well. I also saw some mentioning of “online play”,but as I had a baby crying for attention,I wasn’t able to really focus on all the text before shutting off the console and soothing the little one.
I am sure someone else will come around and have more details, but I just wanted to pass along word in the small event you didn’t know about it already.
PS,the theme itself isn’t really so much a theme (like the one in the most recent issue of QORE) as it is just a new BG image. I don’t know if there are multiple BG images, like in the QORE version, but the image I did see was a Sackboy (with white / floral pattern fabric) and a Sackgirl tearing through a cloth canvas, and Little Big Planet written in pink and white katakana in the lower left corner.
I’d like to point out that this is official, because shopto.net who had 31st down has now changed to 24th. Not only that u can tell they have been in talks with sony as they are now offering a 3″sackby with preorders
@phil austin:Shopto is not an official representative of Sony or Media Molecule,to my knowledge.
Retailer sites have given me every possible date over the course of the past few months. And even when they have their pre-order details settled, that doesn’t mean that they have the release date set in stone.
if Mm cant release a game they made in Europe England to be more precise n better, the same time as America how the hell can any other companies:S
@Easto1a:It’s all about the retailers;they own the shelves, they call the shots (in most territories).
Yes,the day of releases is to good extended decided by the retailers. Hence the “move”–EU releases happen on a Friday. My guess for that is for early sales on the weekend where more people can get to the shops. I *think* NA releases tend to happen on a Tuesday, but I’m not sure about that. This is true for all platforms.
I TOLD you. People though I was lying, but I am the last to laugh!
